Koffi was born in 2003 in Kicukiro district, Rwanda. His parents worked in small-scale agriculture. When his father died — Koffi was just six — his mother raised him alone through real hardship. Talented at football, he passed his national examination, but secondary school brought unpaid fees and a daily struggle to get by. In September 2022, Forward Africa Education Trust (FAET) stepped in, covering his school fees and providing wraparound support.
Today, Koffi has come full circle. He teaches Mathematics, Science, and Technology at Right School, Kinyiya in Gasabo district — encouraging his students to work hard, serve their country, and volunteer. His motivation is simple: to give back to children facing the same struggles he once did.
In 2025, Koffi was invited to join the FAET mentorship programme, delivered in partnership with the Friends Career Center. His mentor observed that his “determination, responsibility toward himself and others, and entrepreneurial mindset demonstrate significant potential for future success.”
He later demonstrated this by using his savings from his teacher salary to start a small business. A community gym, which he owns and runs independently. Its purpose is twofold — improving the wellbeing of young and old alike through sport, while also generating an income. Chair of FAET, Steve Kaim-Caudle, says: “We are proud of everything Koffi has achieved and wish him every success in the years ahead.”
