Divine, 28, runs a fashion and tailoring business in Kigali. She knew how to sew, but struggled to win new orders and manage her finances.
Then she joined SheCreates, a 12-month fellowship for young women entrepreneurs. It combined business training, seed funding and mentorship, and that combination made the difference:
Training gave her the skills to budget, keep proper financial records and plan her business.
Seed funding bought a sewing machine, fabrics, branded packaging and eight bridal dresses for rental.
Mentorship built her confidence to market her work online and reach new customers.
The results so far:
- Bridal rentals up from 0 to about 40 a month
- Sewing orders up from 20 to 35 a month
- A two-year contract to produce school uniforms
- Three permanent staff and five part-time workers
“Before joining SheCreates, I rarely used social media to promote my business. Now, I enjoy marketing my products online, showcasing my work, and reaching more customers.”
Divine’s goal is to grow her business into a larger production company that creates more jobs. Her story shows what happens when young women get practical skills, a little capital and someone in their corner: their success creates opportunities for others too.
SheCreates is funded by Forward Africa Education Trust and delivered in partnership with Friends Career Centre #SheCreates #WomenEntrepreneurs #Rwanda #EmpoweringWomen #FAET
